About The Library

The collection of books and archives of the Foundation for Research on Dutch Jewry is by far the largest Dutch-language collection in Israel in the field of Dutch Jewry. With thousands of titles, the collection is an important source of information for all those who are interested in the history of the Jews in the Netherlands.

Aside from about 4,000 books, it is mainly the large collection of archive material, which make the collection so interesting. The collections consists of personal archives of well-known Dutch Jews, such as the author Clara-Asscher-Pinkhof. In addition there are historical magazines, letters, documents, annual and other reports of associations, etc. Also audio-visual material is part of the library's collection.

The book collection includes, inter alia, a number of magnificent prints that were printed by 17th century Amsterdam Jewish printers. Unique material has been donated to the Foundation in the course of the years by Dutch rabbis, historians, collectors, and others. Maps, pamphlets, and other documents are stored in archive boxes in order to preserve them.

The collection of books and archives is located on the premises of the Yizhak Rabin World Center for Jewish Studies, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Mount Scopus in the renovated library that was opened in December 2008.

Many books can only be viewed on the premises, but others, can be borrowed. For members of the Foundation and for students at no cost A copy machine is available.

A list of new acquisitions, purchased or donated to us, is published online on a regular basis. The catalogue system is online and is updated frequently and there are plans to digitize part of the collection.
